Vinyasa counts and technical foundation and adjustment & observation for key Asanas of the primary Series (also other Ashtanga Series) in their original context.
This workshop should be an in-depth encounter with this system.
During the workshops, Ashtanga Yoga Vienna will provide eLearning content and an online platform exclusively available to students. This pool of material is based on the original Ashtanga system including guidelines on the postures themselves, definitions of elementary Sanskrit and Ayurveda terminology, advice on frequently occurring medical aspects, nutritional guidelines or pedagogic and therapeutic issues. In addition, and to assure a resilient quality standard in the interplay between theory & practice, we will create and share workshop material such as core moments of classes, photos and videos. The whole collaborative processes will be based on individual students’ questions and four or five group discussions.
Education & Certification: Over five continents, and for almost half a century, Manju Pattabhi Jois has been committing himself to the knowledge transfer of the Ashtanga Yoga system. Its tradition was re-established in the early 20th century by his father, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009), as represented by the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute or AYRI in Mysore, India. Together, they have established a certification procedure granting an official authorization for teachers of Ashtanga Yoga. Listed under ayiri.org until 2009, the Jois’ family agreed to continue the listing on ashtanga.com. By the end of the workshop, students will be issued a “European Academy of Ashtanga Yoga – Ashtanga Yoga Vienna- Certificate of Participation”. They are expected to tutor exercises such as asana and pranayama in the traditional way, applying Sanskrit commands, verbal and hands-on adjustments as well as fundamental therapeutic asana, pranayama exercises and chants.

“You have to do all parts, also called jñana (knowledge) yoga. To get that knowledge, you have to practice all the steps, just like a ritual you do every day. Your asana practice maintains physical health, then you have to do pranayama, and the chanting (internal vibrations).”- Manju P. Jois
